1. Start with Fantasy and Imagination

The journey begins with your imagination. Proctor encourages you to dream big, without limitations. Picture the life you truly want and allow yourself to fantasize about it.

“The first step in altering that image is to fantasize. Just take the lid off your marvelous mind and dream.”

2. Turn Your Fantasy into a Theory

Once you’ve envisioned your ideal life, the next step is to turn your fantasy into a theory. This involves asking yourself two critical questions:

  • Ability: Are you capable of achieving this dream? Proctor insists that the answer is always yes, as doubt is nothing more than an illusion

“All things are possible. Our objective is to figure out how, not whether we’re able to or not.”

  • Willingness: Are you willing to pay the price to make your dream a reality? This might involve overcoming setbacks, facing ridicule, or stepping out of your comfort zone

3. Implant the New Self-Image

To embed your new self-image into your subconscious mind, Proctor highlights the importance of repetition and visualization. Here are some practical steps:

  • Repetition: Regularly review affirmations, program materials, or visual aids that reinforce your new self-image

“To properly deposit your winning image in the treasury of your subconscious mind, it’s vitally important that you remember the first law of learning: repetition.”

  • Willingness: Are you willing to pay the price to make your dream a reality? This might involve overcoming setbacks, facing ridicule, or stepping out of your comfort zone
  • Visualization: Picture yourself living your dream life with strong emotional intensity. Feel the joy, confidence, and success as if it’s already yours.
  • Written Vision: Write a detailed description of your ideal life and reflect on it daily. This helps solidify the image in your mind.
  • Act the Part: Begin embodying the behaviors, appearance, and mindset of your new self-image. Proctor uses the example of actor Cary Grant, who famously said, “I acted like Cary Grant for so long I became him.”

4. Shift Your Focus to the New You

During the transition, you may feel torn between your old self and your new self. Proctor advises shifting your focus to the “winner” version of yourself.

“Every time you see yourself as a failure… shift your focus until you see the beautiful new you.”

This mental shift is akin to the vase/face optical illusion, where changing your perspective reveals an entirely new image. By continually choosing to see the “new you,” you’ll eventually embody that version of yourself.

The Outcome: Living Your Fantasy

As you repeatedly impress your winning self-image onto your subconscious mind, the old, limiting image will fade away. Over time, your external reality will begin to align with your new internal beliefs, allowing you to live the life you once only dreamed of.

“Every time we impress that winning image upon the subconscious mind, the old image fades… ultimately that winner's image becomes our new self-image.”
