My Water Fasting Journey: From Skeptic to 500+ Hours in 2025

I'm excited to share my fasting journey with you. If you're reading this in February 2025, I've just hit a pretty exciting milestone - 500 hours of fasting since the first month (6th Jan) of the year!

How It All Started

Let me be real with you - like many of you, I started as a complete skeptic about fasting. But here I am, not just practicing it but seeing incredible results both personally and with my clients.

My 2025 Fasting Journey (So Far)

Let me break down what I've achieved in just over a month:

  • 500+ total fasting hours ✅
  • 4 complete water-only fasting days 💧
  • 90% of fasts following 16:8 protocol 🕒
  • Remaining fasts ending at 3 PM 🌅

Real Results from Our Community

Before we dive into the science (don't worry, I'll keep it simple!), let me share something exciting. My wife, Dr. Mo. of NURU Psychology, recently completed a 2-day water-only fast and lost 3.6kg! And this wasn't just sitting around - she maintained her normal activity, including a 10K step day. This is real-world results from someone you can relate to.

My Current Fasting Schedule

I'm currently following what I call the "Flexible Focus" schedule:

  • 2 days: Water-only fasting 💧
  • 2 days: Fasting until 3 PM 🌅
  • 2 days: Fasting until 6 PM 🌆
  • Saturday: Relaxed eating (because life is about balance!) 🎉

Look, I could throw a bunch of scientific terms at you (autophagy, metabolic flexibility, ketosis), but let's keep it real. Here's what I've personally experienced and what my clients consistently report:

Start Small, Think Big

Remember my 500 hours? That didn't happen overnight. Here's how I suggest starting:


  • Begin with 12 hours
  • Basically, just stop eating after dinner
  • Sleep counts as fasting time (yes, really!)
  • Gradually extend your fasting window
  • Progress to 16:8
  • This is where 90% of my fasting hours come from

  • Water only for 1, 2, or 3 days straight (but listen to your body and don't over do it)

Common Challenges (and How I Deal with Them)

The Hunger Games

Truth: Hunger comes in waves. I've learned that when it hits:

  • Drink water (sometimes we confuse thirst with hunger)
  • Stay busy (idle time = snack time)
  • Remember: It WILL pass

Social Situations

Yes, I still have a social life! Here's how:

  • Plan fasting around social events
  • Be flexible when needed
  • Listen to your body; and
  • Remember: One meal won't break your progress

The Safe Way to Start

  1. Check with your doctor (seriously, do this first just in case)
  2. Start with intermittent fasting (16:8 is perfect, if you can else 12:12)
  3. Track your progress (use a fasting app on your phone like I do)
