Nothing is Either Good or Bad – William Shakespeare

coachAOG

Can Nothing be either Good or Bad but our thinking making it so? That is a weird way of thinking isn’t it?

Job, the great sufferer from the Bible, said one time , “Behold, what I fear the most has come upon me.” Taking that into account, King Solomon said, “As a man thinketh in his,” (or her) “heart, so is he.” Emerson said, “If you think you can or cannot, you’re right.”coachAOG-William-Shakespeare

There is a lot said about thinking. So can it be true that, “there’s nothing either Good or Bad but our thinking makes it so.”? To help you have more understanding about this idea, there’s an analogy below, which will carry this idea of “nothing good or bad” and drop it right in the center of your thinking mind. Let’s consider using one of my favourite food “plantain”. Oh gosh, I love plantain. Lol.

Thinking Changes Things

A plantain when hard and green is good to the Jamaicans as they can make their delicacy with it. It is also good for a goat as this is how they like to eat it. However, this same plantain, is bad for me because I cannot make a meal called “ dodo ” (fried plantain) with it. I love dodo a lot. Further on, when this plantain is soft and ripe enough, now it is good for me as this is how I like it. But at this stage, it is bad for birds though. For they cannot eat it because it is not ripe enough and it is still hard for them. Also If this same plantain is this ripe, then it can be bad for some Jamaicans as well as they cannot make their delicacy with it.

Lastly on this same example, when this plantain is overripe, very black skinned and soft, (yulk! for me). It is bad for me because I cannot make my favorite dodo with it the way I like it. But on a contrary, it is very good for the birds as this is how they absolutely love it. It is also good for the people of Ikire (somewhere in Nigeria) as this is when they make their awesome delicacy called, “dodo Ikire”.

Now tell me, when is this plantain GOOD or BAD?

All these different people, is it not that, their decision to like or dislike eating plantain was based on the kind of thinking they have programmed them for when growing up..? Think about this now. If I was fed a dark, hard-skinned plantain when growing up, wouldn’t I like it as much as what I liked now when eating dodo?

You see, really, nothing is either good or bad but only you and I thinking (which is the way we have been brought up) make it good or bad!

Use this idea. Re – interpret things happening to you. If it is bad, think it as good. How, you asked? Let’s think about this together.donut-thinkingIt either you see the hole in a donut or you see the juicy, fleshy donut around the hole..?
There’s always a seed of good in every bad! So if only our thinking makes it so, then why not make positive things out of negative situations then. I am not saying it is easy but when some understanding of the natural laws of the Universe , Ideas and some decision making, surely you can see the good in bad situations.
Remember Jonah in the Bible , he was in the worst situation ever (in the belly of a whale for days) but, he came out alright. So be positive and use your thinking for the good!
