Think optimistically with these 12 pointers

Looking at a situation through a "half-full" lens, that is, focusing on positive aspects rather than negative ones, is an important part of good thinking. It also entails believing in yourself, your accomplishments, and your future prospects, as well as taking on challenges that others consider impossible. Almost every great accomplishment in history has been the product of positive thinking: someone believing in and acting on an almost unthinkable possibility.

12 tips for optimism and how to think positive

There are various advantages of thinking positively in life:

  • When you concentrate on the positive things of life, you will be happier.

  • Positive thinking provides you with strength and ensures that you will always be able to get back up and keep going.

  • You'll be healthier if you think positively: People who believe in their own ability to recover have a better chance of overcoming even the most severe illnesses.

  • Optimism is essential for both professional and personal success.

  • When you learn to think positively, you realize that you are in charge of your thoughts and have some control over what you think.

  • A good view of oneself and one's accomplishments boosts self-confidence and self-esteem.

  • Positive thinking pushes you to branch out and attempt new things.

  • It has been discovered that those who are upbeat have more energy.

What is not positive thinking?

Many individuals roll their eyes whenever the term "positive thinking" is spoken. A misunderstanding of what it signifies is the cause behind this. Positive thinking does not imply that all negative thoughts must be eliminated. It's not just about dancing through an inspiring environment, contrary to popular notion. Optimism is just as realistic as pessimism: almost nothing is solely positive or bad. We, on the other hand, get to pick and choose which characteristics to emphasize.

These are 12 tips and exercises for positive thinking

1. Shift your focus away from negative ideas!

Negative thoughts have a lot of power. They sabotage our courage, enthusiasm, and spirit. You don't have to give them as much power, though. Simply shift your focus away from negative thoughts. That isn't to say they aren't still around. They no longer have much of an impact on you, though. The following is how it works: When you're dealing with dread, worry, self-blame, or any other bad thinking, draw a mental line and focus on something else. Negative thoughts should be avoided; they will not benefit you.

2. Smiling is a good thing to do.

Some people are always grumpy, while others are always cheery. The folks who grin are the happiest. The reason behind this is revealed in the smile: When you make a favourable facial expression, a happy chemical is released, according to research. Your face muscles also appear to provide information to your brain about your emotional state. As a result, smiling makes you feel more at ease and cheerful.

3. Always look for the positive aspects of a situation.

Even if it's only something to learn from, something positive may nearly always come out of a scenario. Obstacles can be viewed as challenges, and mistakes as opportunities for learning. You have two options if you can't find a parking spot near your apartment: worry or go for a late-night stroll. When the ingredients for your recipe are no longer available, it's a good time to branch out and try something new. Finding anything nice to say about significant existential challenges can be tough. "It'll come in handy for something" is poor advice for someone who has lost a loved one. On a smaller scale, though, there are a number of options for conducting additional research and discovering the positive elements. Finally, this will work with larger groups.

4. Maintain a gratitude notebook

Mindfulness is real. Gratitude is the key

If you already keep a thankfulness notebook and use it daily, you can skip this step. If you don't already have one, get one, today! Even though things appear to be going badly at times, there are many things to be grateful for in your life. Keeping a thankfulness notebook allows you to concentrate on the positive aspects of your life rather than the negative aspects. Write down three things you are grateful for every morning or evening, and that's all there is to it. When you read back what you are grateful for in a week, see how you feel.

5. Measure the news

TV, radio, social media, and other media disaster reports can easily generate the idea that the world is full of horrible things. That is, of course, not the case. Aside from big calamities and acts of violence, every day, millions of beautiful things occur. These are not, however, the first reports in the media. It may be advantageous to time the communications in order to reduce the negative consequences. Simply turn off the news or at least the news that keeps cropping up on social media, for a time. Allowing negativity to attack you on a regular basis is not a smart idea.

6. Stay away from complainers

Whether we are positive or negative is partly dependent on the people around us. If you deal with folks that whine and complain regularly, you will notice their negative attitude. Joyful and happy people, on the other hand, might make us happy.

7. Let go of victimisation

Positive thinking entails taking full ownership of one's life. Say goodbye to the sense of being a victim and having bad things happen to you all the time. You have more control over your life than you may realize! Once you fully comprehend this, it will be much easier for you to perceive the potential in a scenario.

8. Avoid comparisons

The next-door neighbours have a large apartment and a large automobile, the colleague is slimmer and more attractive, and the relative is far more successful at work... Such analogies are depressing and represent a negative mentality. We can also compare ourselves to those who are in a worse situation than we are. But that's not something we do all that often. We have a tendency to compare ourselves to someone who appears to be better situated in every way. If you can avoid making these comparisons, your attitude will improve nearly instantly.

9. Remind yourself of your accomplishments with a good thought

You've accomplished a lot in your life, even if it doesn't always feel like it. Make a list of all your achievements, including your college degrees, driver's license, difficult situations you've faced, children you've successfully raised, a larger home, finished projects, and so on. As you think about it, a lot of things will come to mind. Then continue to add little events that occur on a daily basis to your list. Have you finally scheduled that long-awaited doctor's appointment or fixed the dripping faucet? Great! Instead of a to-do list, a daily "I did it" list is far more motivating.

10. Be aware of your limitations and needs

It's difficult to stay positive when your boundaries are constantly broken. As a result, recognizing your own requirements and limitations is a crucial step toward positive thinking. Keep in mind to look for yourself!

11. Start the day with positive thoughts

The remainder of your day will go better if you start thinking positively first thing in the morning. This practice will help: Every morning, put yourself in a position where you are joyful and carefree and feel excellent. Put yourself in this circumstance again and appreciate this happy moment.

12. Read books about happiness

Happiness and positive thinking are far more complex topics than can be covered in a single article. Furthermore, dealing with these issues encourages you to reconsider your position. As a result, read a book about happiness or other positive topics on a regular basis.

Final thoughts on positive thinking tips

The most important thing is to keep reminding yourself that things don't have to stay this way forever! Even if you sometimes feel as if you've lost control of your thoughts and life, you're still in charge.
